Greenville Together has been honored with the 2025 Max Heller Neighborhood Improvement Award by the Greenville Chamber, recognizing the initiative’s collaborative efforts to address homelessness and expand housing stability across Greenville County.
The award recognizes projects that strengthen the community and reflect the legacy of Max Heller, whose leadership and civic vision helped shape Greenville into the thriving city it is today.
Launched in 2024, Greenville Together brings together nonprofits, housing providers, government partners and community leaders to coordinate solutions that help neighbors experiencing homelessness move into permanent housing.
In its first year, the initiative surpassed its original goal of housing 80 households, helping 90 households—154 individuals—move into stable housing, with dozens more currently in the pipeline.
The initiative is hosted by United Way of Greenville County in partnership with the City of Greenville and a network of service providers, property managers and community partners working together to expand access to housing and strengthen support systems.
A Community Effort
“Receiving the Max Heller Award is a reflection of what can happen when a community comes together around a shared goal,” said Cody Carver, Director of Greenville Together. “This work is only possible because of the partners, providers and community members who are committed to helping our neighbors move from homelessness to housing.”
Through coordinated outreach, landlord engagement and supportive services, Greenville Together focuses on helping individuals and families transition from the street or shelter into permanent homes. The initiative also works closely with local partners to remove barriers that prevent people from accessing stable housing.
Why This Recognition Matters
The Max Heller Neighborhood Improvement Award highlights the importance of community-wide collaboration in addressing complex challenges like homelessness. By aligning the efforts of nonprofit organizations, local government and private sector partners, Greenville Together is building a stronger, more coordinated response to housing instability in Greenville.
The recognition underscores the progress made in the initiative’s first year and the continued commitment of Greenville’s leaders and organizations to creating long-term solutions.
Looking Ahead
As Greenville Together enters its second year, the initiative will continue expanding partnerships with landlords, strengthening support services and identifying new pathways to housing stability for individuals and families across Greenville County.
